Essentials For Nighttime Skincare

Why nighttime skincare routine is so important!

Our days are long and hectic filled with work obligations, home responsibilities, and everything in between, so once the night comes and everyone is off to bed, you finally get a moment to yourself to do as you wish. But before you know it your head hits the pillow and you enter the sweet, sweet world of dreamland.

We don’t know how it actually happens, something about the exhaustion of it all, but one thing is for sure – sleep takes over way before we actually mean to go to bed.  And the one thing that gets lost in the shuffle is skincare, specifically, the all-important nighttime routine that clears the day off of our face, rejuvenates, and prepares it for the next.

While sleep is essential to our wellbeing and the wellbeing of our skin as well, it is equally important to always take the time before bed to take care of our skin, if not for any other reason than – this is probably the only time during the day that no one is bothering you (at least in theory) and you can actually devote at least a little bit of time to it. Another reason is that – your skin has gone through a whole day of activity with you, which most likely means it has been exposed to – air pollution, drying air conditioners, smoke, UV rays, dirt, sweat, makeup, germs, and the list goes on. If this doesn’t convince you to take those extra 10 minutes before sleep to take care of your skin, then probably nothing will.

But let’s not just talk the talk, let’s walk the walk. Here is the breakdown of the essentials of nighttime skincare:

  1. First and foremost clean your face. After a long day of working hard, wearing makeup, and being exposed to everything under the sun (including the sun), it is important to get all that stuff off of the face. A good deep clean is in order. A great way to get truly clean is to use a face cleansing device, like Silk’n Dual Clean Makeup remover, it does a thorough cleaning, including removing every trace of makeup and pollution, while still being gentle on the skin.
  2. When you have an extra 10 minutes to really pamper yourself, then do a mask about once a week for exfoliating, or detoxifying, or illuminating results. Or try an at-home microdermabrasion device, it will exfoliate, unclog pores, alleviate irritation and dry patchy skin, help relieve acne, smooth out and refresh skin.
  3. This is the time to address whatever concerns you may have regarding your skin. If it is aging then use a nighttime anti-aging cream, if it’s irritation than use calming lotions designed for nighttime use. Night time products are typically more concentrated, heavy duty counterparts to their daytime equivalents. So it only makes sense to take advantage of the night and get better results than when using the daytime products.
  4. Hydrate, you’ve heard this before and you will hear it again, moisturize your skin. Give your skin a surge of moisture for the night so you wake up with hydrated, soft and supple skin.

Nighttime is the best time to care for your skin since there are no daytime skin stresses to contend with, and the body is naturally doing the work already, so go ahead and give it a boost!
