The race for the best actress seems to be a full on battle between Brie Larson ("Room") and Saoirse Ronan ("Brooklyn"). The rising stars gave two of the year’s most resounding performances. With Brie Larson’s taking of her first Academy Award and earlier winning the Golden Globe, SAG and Critic's' Choice, it is likely that she will be the one to grab the title, but who knows?
Kate Winslet ("Steve Jobs")Rachel McAdams ("Spotlight")Jennifer Jason Leigh ("The Hateful Eight") Alicia Vikander ("The Danish Girl")Rooney Mara ("Carol")
Best supporting actress currently seems like a wide open race! Alicia Vikander and Rooney Mara landed their spots in the nominees as expected, both of whom have rising star potential which may or may not be noticed by the board. On the other hand, with no shortage of previous nominations to her name, Kate Winslet is in for the run again! Jennifer Jason Leigh and Rachel McAdams fit nicely into the collective, though Leigh’s ferocious performance in Tarantino's “The Hateful Eight” has many pining her as the category’s definitive victor. The race is on and it’s anyone’s guess!Who do you think will be stealing the best actress titles next week?
